Fall Off The Edge of The Stratosphere For $100

Adding to its list of thrill rides The Stratosphere has announced it will let crazy people with a death wish ultimate adventure seekers do a "controlled" free fall off the top of its tower. So it's sort of like bungee jumping but with a lot more tethering going on. (Still, this totally qualifies as The 90s are Back trend.)
The LV Sun reports:
Riders will be given a safety lesson and then get in custom jump suits. They will then be connected to a "descender machine."
After jumping off the tower, riders will be guided by wires to stay on course during the 108-story descent facing the Las Vegas Strip before the descender slows the rider down for a controlled landing.
Stratosphere called the ride "an incredibly safe, yet audacious adventure."
The ride is expected to open in April. About six to 10 jumpers will be accommodated each hour. The ride will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday-Thursday and until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. May we suggest NOT doing this hungover. Thank you very much.

What's Not Open on Christmas Day in Vegas?
The Ice King and Queen and their snow fairies at The Palazzo never get a day off!
The answer is, everything is still open on Christmas Day in Las Vegas on The Strip. Hotels are of course, open and almost all restaurants are serving special Christmas menus.
Even better, since most people are in their homes putting out cookies for Santa and bickering with their relatives, everything in Vegas from the casinos to the shows to the bars are less crowded. (God forbid, we see a bachelorette party on Christmas Day. We might have to cut someone if we ever see that.)
Checking the shows on the Strip we see that LOVE at The Mirage still has tickets for their 7 and 9:30pm shows. Jersey Boys also has tickets open on Christmas Day for the 7pm showing.
As for nightlife, we recommend hitting up the new Haze nightclub from the Light Group inside Aria. On Christmas night, the place will give guests a sneak preview on Christmas Day with DJs Sharam and Farsheed. Tickets can be bought here for $40. Doors open at 10:30pm.

VegasChatter Loves The 90s: 5 Acts We Want to See in Vegas

With Vanilla Ice performing tonight at Studio 54 at MGM Grand, our hypothesis that The 90s Are Back has pretty much been proven, whether you like it or not. Yet, we've only been able to get excited about a handful of these blasts from the pasts. Vanilla Ice, Offspring, LIVE and Spin Doctors do not get us excited to hit up the clubs and party.
So pay close attention Vegas club promoters and entertainment directors. We've put together a list of Five 90s Acts That We WANT to See in Vegas in the upcoming months.
Our criteria was simple: they had to have been hot in the 90s and they had to have faded out of the public eye for a while. For example, New Edition with Bobby Brown doesn't count. Neither does anyone on Dancing with The Stars. Got your own suggestions for 90s acts that you wanna see in Vegas? Put 'em in comments below.

The 90s Continue to 'Be Back' with Offspring Concert at Rain

Is this how our parents felt when the 70s suddenly became cool again in the early 90s? Yes, the 90s continue to be popular in Vegas as the old "Self-Esteem" group, Offspring, is all set to perform at The Palms at Rain on November 4th. You can get yourself on the complimentary guestlist here.

Flying to Vegas from LA Will Only Cost $25, Thanks to New Southwest Sale

If you live in the Los Angeles area, you're in luck as Southwest has just launched a sweet new sale with flights to Vegas starting at only $25. Our brother site, Jaunted had the news on the cheap fares this morning.
The sale starts today and ends at 11:59PST on October 29th and is good for travel between Dec. 2, 2009 and Dec. 16, 2009, or travel between Jan. 5, 2010, and Feb. 10, 2010. The prices are easy to remember as everything is increments of 25. Flights up to 375 miles start at $25 one-way. Between 375 and 549 miles, fares are $50 one-way. Between 550 and 999 miles, fares are $75 one-way. Flights longer than a 1,000 miles will be the more expensive of the group, starting at about $100 per ticket.
Indeed, the popular route of Los Angeles to Las Vegas was available mid-week for $25. And with hotel rooms already low during the week, especially in December, this might be the best time to see Sin City for less.

The 90s Are Back and PURE at Caesars is Responsible

Last week we theorized that Las Vegas is probably loving the 90s just a little too much what with all these old acts coming out of the grunge and floral babydoll dress woodwork to perform in town. But the 90s obsession continues with rapper Biz Markie who is performing tonight at PURE at Caesars Palace. And yes, expect his "Just a Friend" hit that had you cracking up in 9th grade to be performed. Put yourself on the list here.
You can expect this 90s obsession to last at least until Thanksgiving. Next month, Third Eye Blind is set to perform. You remember them, right? It was their classic "Semi-Charmed Kind of Life" that had you all pumped up in the bars late at night after you finally finished your term papers. And don't forget their, "How's It Gonna Be?" was the breakup hit of 1998.
Missed a chance to see 'em in college? Then fear not. You can see them at PURE (of all places for alt-rockers) on November 13 at 8pm.

Does Vegas Love the 90s a Little Too Much?

We have to ask this question: What is up with folks who were big when we were wearing cross colors overalls, ripped flannel shirts or black velour baby doll dresses resurfacing in Vegas recently? It seems the Vegas entertainment scene is picking up some long-forgotten 90s stars and putting them back in the public eye.
Off the top of our heads, this is what we've culled together: Bands like New Kids on The Block, LIVE, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Spin Doctors and Boyz II Men all came into town this summer.
Ginuwine's "Pony" song is featured in Peep Show. Tonya Harding appeared at a club over the summer as did Jason Priestly.
Donny and Marie are performing at the Flamingo (if you remember, this duo had a TV talk show debut in the mid 90s.) David Copperfield has really never re-captured the heydey of his when he was dating Guess model Claudia Schiffer and he's set for another round of Vegas gigs.
This weekend, the reigning 90s diva, Mariah Carey will sing (again) at The Palms. And now we learn that rappers Naughty by Nature held a short show at the Hawaiian Tropic Zone at Planet Hollywood on Friday night with a special guest appearance by Coolio! Is everyone just really that nostalgic for the 90s or are these the cheapest acts that Vegas can hire?
All we have to say is that when Al B. Sure, Kris Kross and Hootie and Blowfish return for a concert, we want front row tickets!

Toad The Wet Sprocket Resurfaces With Free Concert at The Rio
All summer long, the Rio is hosting a free summer concert series one Thursday each month at VooDoo Beach. The next one: Toad the Wet Sprocket on Thursday, July 30.
That’s right – we said free! This is one of those things we love about Vegas. There are so many entertainment venues here, virtually all with a guaranteed, captive audience of drinks-buying frolickers, that sometimes management is willing to soak up something like a somewhat-has-been-but-still-good band’s fee.

SpyOnVegas Serves Up Free Daily Happy Hours

It’s paradise for party people every weeknight at Open Bar, the free happy hours organized by local club circuit Web site SpyOnVegas. Just register online to become a "member," then, prepare to drink free at different venues courtesy of different liquor sponsors, five nights a week.
Some Open Bar events even include free concerts, like tonight’s at VooDoo Beach at the Rio. Print out your free voucher on the SpyOnVegas site, and you’ll skip the $10 cover charge if you’re a fella (ladies are free anyway), and enjoy a concert by 90s alt rockers The Spin Doctors.
In addition to whatever free libation you’ll be offered (Foster’s is SpyOnVegas’ co-sponsor on this one, so we presume…), VooDoo Beach also features its own happy hour pricing from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. featuring fresh-fruit mojitos, specialty cocktails and half-price beer specials. Doors open at 5:30 and the concert starts at 7 p.m.

Who Knew? LIVE is Still Alive and Performing

We just know you’ve all been dying to know what happened to LIVE, that band you graduated into after grunge ran its course way back in the mid-90s. You know, the ones that sang about death-by-childbirth and other lighthearted themes in a super-soulful, we-take-ourselves-extremely-seriously sort of way.
Not to imply they’ve sold out our anything, but we were a little surprised to learn they’ve signed up to play a one-night gig at the Palazzo Pools on June 11. You see, poolside concerts in Vegas tend to fall into one of two camps: we’ll call them “Beach Boys Retro” or “Top 40 This Minute.” That being the case, we’re just not sure what this little development says about LIVE’s career.
