Keep It On the D.L. But P.U.B Set To Soft-Open on Thursday

Where: 3720 S Las Vegas Blvd [map], 89109
February 16, 2010 at 1:59 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

We've been eagerly wondering when Todd English's Public Urban Bar (aka P.U.B.) would be opening and now we might have an answer. A secret tipster let us know that the restaurant would be soft-opening on Thursday! Yippee!

That's all that we know at this point so we'll have to pop over there on Thursday to check it out. We did check out Todd's website (which is in need of a design tune-up) but there is no mention of P.U.B. yet. And we're still left wondering what's going to be on the menu here.

Real Men Eat Their Steak in a Treehouse

Where: 3720 S Las Vegas Blvd [map], 89109
February 12, 2010 at 8:46 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Yes, that's a treehouse and yes, you can eat there!

This "treehouse" designed by architect David Rockwell is a part of Mastro's Ocean Club inside The Crystals and it's kind of one of our new favorite things in Vegas right now. It's hard to believe that just outside The Crystals cardsnappers and drunk frat boys carrying yards of frozen margaritas are wandering around. We just hope the ladies at Mastro's aren't like the ladies at the Mastro's in Beverly Hills. Ah, who are we kidding? Ladies of the night love Vegas!

Mastro's is open for lunch and dinner from 11am to 11pm Sunday through Thursday and until midnight Friday and Saturdays. The restaurant's piano bar is open until 2am daily.

Seen something you love or hate in Las Vegas? Tell us about it. Here's how to let us know:

Social House To Socialize Once More This Summer at The Crystals

Where: 3720 S Las Vegas Blvd [map], 89109
February 10, 2010 at 10:28 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Strolling around The Crystals on Sunday we were taking notice of the changes to the place since we were last there in December, and we were tickled to see that Social House has put up its signage on the second floor of the luxury mall, next to Mastro's Ocean Club.

It looks like those rumors were true. The Pure Management Group may try and play things close to their chest but our experience has been where there's smoke, there's fire.

Social House will re-emerge from hiding this Summer. We have to say, from a space overlooking the cheestatic pirates and sirens show at Treasure Island to the swanky Crystals is quite a social climb. Congrats!

Todd English's P.U.B. Not Quite O.F.B.

Where: 3720 S Las Vegas Blvd [map], 89109
February 8, 2010 at 4:55 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

UPDATE 2.12.10:: PUB not open. "Hopefully" next week.

UPDATE: According to The Crystals, P.U.B. will open on February 11.

OFB: Open for Business.

Todd English's Public Urban Bar or PUB was supposed to open yesterday, judging from the signage in front of the restaurant but when we strolled by last night, the lights were on but the windows were papered up.

The space, wedged between Julian Serrano at Aria and the entrance to The Crystals, has exterior signage and it looks like the interior is almost finished.

Meanwhile, according to the Boston Globe, English is a busy man and perhaps this is the reason for the PUB delay.

He is taping a pilot of a new TV show, and helping launch a men’s fashion collection at Club Monaco. He also has plans to open a cupcake shop on Beacon Hill with his daughter, Isabelle, start a line of children’s food products named after the character Eloise, and open restaurants in Las Vegas and at New York’s Plaza Hotel.

Hopefully, it's just a matter of training the staff before P.U.B is ready to open. As always, we'll keep you posted but if you've got any scoop, send it to us.

Sniffing Tuscan Leather and Tobacco Vanilla at Tom Ford

Where: 3720 S Las Vegas Blvd., [map], 89109
January 22, 2010 at 5:45 PM | by juliana | 1 Comment

There's an interesting anecdote about fashion designer/film director Tom Ford that when he set out to create his first men's cologne, Black Orchid, he wanted it to smell like a man's crotch.

Well, now that Tom Ford has opened his first West Coast location in The Crystals you can do all the crotch-sniffing that you want. Sorry, we couldn't resist.

Yet dirty jokes aside, the men's clothing store has a cool jewel-box sort of set-up in the back room where all of Tom Ford's scents are on display.

Inside The Crystals, A Work In Progress

Where: 3720 S Las Vegas Blvd. [map], 89109
December 18, 2009 at 5:54 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

The grand opening of the Aria Resort and Casino took up most of our time and attention but we can't forget about CityCenter's luxury shopping mall, The Crystals. Designed by Daniel Libeskind and with interiors by the Rockwell Group, The Crystals will be the new home for luxury designers in Las Vegas.

Not all the space is filled yet (more stores will open later this year) but you can currently shop at the massive Louis Vuitton store (the largest in North America), Tom Ford (his first West Coast shop), Mikimoto and Tiffany, amongst a few others.

Word is, each store will sell something that can only be found in the Las Vegas store, not elsewhere. (We didn't find out what that is at LV but that's the word on the Strip.) We actually spent the most time inside the Tom Ford store which has a little room at the back for cologne testing. Seriously. We recommend the Tobacco Vanilla scent. It's unisex too.

Right now, there's not much else happening in here. Instead, the action is happening at the Beso restaurant from Eva Longoria Parker and its upstairs nightclub, Eve, which has a giant disco ball on the dance floor.

While The Crystals is not one of the most shocking malls out there, it is pretty spectacular for America even if it does end up being a just a giant mall for window shopping.

While Folks Are Perusing The Luxury Goods at The Crystals...

December 3, 2009 at 5:44 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

...we found this charming aisle of suitcases and souvenir t-shirts in the CVS located next to The Crystals and the Mandarin Oriental. Hmmm...not quite the luxury neighbor CityCenter probably would have liked to have.

Still, it's convenient for folks to have a drugstore right here. There's also a Walgreen's across the street which has way better offerings. But you have to walk up to the next light to cross the street as jaywalking will either get you in trouble with the police or run-over.

Oh and don't forget about CVS's selection of travel pillows!

Orlando Bloom Is Guest of Honor at Vdara's Opening

Where: 2600 W. Harmon Avenue [map], 89109
November 25, 2009 at 3:44 PM | by juliab | 0 Comments

And there we were getting excited about Eva Longoria Parker coming along to open Beso in The Crystals. Today, we found out the guests of honour at the Vanity Fair opening party for Vdara: Orlando Bloom and Rosario Dawson.

It’s not all glitz though – the eco message will be fairly prominent too. The evening will be hosted by Sebastian Copeland, photographer, green campaigner and, incidentally, Mr Bloom’s cousin.

The evening will double as the launch for the Sebastian Copeland Foundation – which will be campaigning against climate change. Will CityCenter turn Vegas into an eco paradise? That’ll be one to watch. Meanwhile, we're hoping Orlando's not flying into town.

'The Capital of the New World' Gets a New Website

November 18, 2009 at 1:16 PM | by juliana | 1 Comment

CityCenter is coming! CityCenter is coming!

Christmas will come early for Vegas with the opening of CityCenter on December 1 when Vdara Resort and Casino opens. The invites for the opening of The Crystals and the two-day opening extravaganza for everything else have been mailed out, opened and Twittered about. Right now, the Vegas glitterati are just simply wondering what to wear to the ball.

But do not think for a second that CityCenter is going to sit back and wait for guests to roll in. Hence the new CityCenter website--www.citycenter.com--and it's full motion 3D video which gives those curious and clueless an in-depth look at what to expect.

We gave the site a whirl just a few minutes ago. It starts off with an aerial zoom along the Strip before turning into CityCenter. There it pauses and you have the option of selecting which building you would like to know more about. Selecting a building brings up a trading card sort of image with the pertinent stats of the hotel and a direct link to their individual websites.

The site is easy to navigate as well as fun. More importantly, it works and works well. But we're still way more excited to see CityCenter in person. After all, this is supposed to be "The Capital of the New World."

Totally random thought: What is Steve Wynn up to right now?

Louis Vuitton Stamps Its Logo on The Crystals at CityCenter

August 11, 2009 at 12:13 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Driving by the massive construction site that is making Strip traffic more frustrating than ever aka CityCenter we noticed that luxury shopping complex, The Crystals, was making some serious progress. How serious? Serious enough that Louis Vuitton decided to slap on its oft-counterfeited logo "LV" on the front of the building.

The Crystals is still set for a December 3rd opening and Louis Vuitton isn't the only luxury brand you'll be able to window-shop buy. Prada, Dior, Bulgari, Tom Ford, Carolina Herrera, Hermes, Roberto Cavalli, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Versace are all expected to open boutiques inside the mall. (Hmm...can you even call it a mall with all those high-end brands in there?)

In the meantime, should you need an LV fix here's where you can find LV stores elsewhere on The Strip.
