Mario Barth Opens At Mirage Next Thursday

Where: 3400 Las Vegas Blvd S [map], 89109
March 10, 2010 at 11:55 AM | by juliab | 0 Comments

We’ve been wandering past the frontage for Mario Barth’s new tattoo parlor at the Mirage for some time now, but finally we know when it’s opening. Last night, we noticed some banging going down inside and some men emerging from it, so we asked when it was opening.

The answer? Next Thursday. Which means that, seeing as it’s positioned right opposite Jet, we predict that next weekend will be the first of many ill-advised lion/volcano/Carnegie’s Deli tattoos. In fact, maybe Max Rudolph could come over for a spot of inspiration.

In the meantime, here’s what the Barth display in the lobby looks like. Nothing like a memento mori as you check in for your stay in Vegas, is there?

So What Attracted This Hot 21 Year Old To Millionaire Terry Fator?

February 11, 2010 at 2:01 PM | by juliab | 0 Comments

Looks like Fato's as confused as we are by this

The most interesting part of the Sports Illustrated red carpet at Jet last night? Deciding that Terry Fator is a bit of an idiot.

Hands up first – we’ve never seen Fator perform ourselves, but we’d heard great stuff about him from people who had seen his show – that he was “normal” and “humble”, that he lets you take photos during his show, and comes out afterwards to sign as many autographs as you throw at him. Ventriloquists don't normally do it for us, but he sounded nice enough.

LOVE + The Mirage = (Semi) Savings

Where: 3400 S. Las Vegas Blvd. [map], 89109
January 19, 2010 at 7:37 PM | by globetrotting gourmet | 0 Comments

All you may need is love, but we need cheap hotel deals and discount packages when we stay in Las Vegas. The Mirage is offering a LOVE Package through the end of the month that bundles a two-night stay in a remodeled Deluxe Room with two tickets to LOVE.

Rates start at $318 for the LOVE Weekday Package and $368 for the LOVE Weekend Package. Depending upon when you go, it’s a either a break even deal or it saves a little bit of money – especially if you stay over a Saturday night. After a quick cyber investigation, we found room rates at The Mirage as low as $86 a night (the week of January 24th), but tickets for LOVE are still a spendy $70 a pop (and that’s with the current 25% off promotion).

That comes out to about $312, which is no great savings shakes compared to the package rate. Your best bet is booking the weekend package, when room rates skyrocket.

If You Find A Room You Like, Should You Stay or Should You Go?

Where: 3355 Las Vegas Blvd South [map], 89109
January 6, 2010 at 2:45 PM | by juliab | 4 Comments

Is this as good as it gets?

So we have a techy friend over from London to attend CES. He’s been at the Venetian since Monday, then is down to switch to the Mirage on Friday. The Mirage was cheaper over the weekend, and he thought it would be cool to check out two different hotels.

Until, that is, he arrived at the Venetian, and sent us the following over-excited email:

I have the most amazing suite at the Venetian - gonna be a real come down on Friday when I move to a normal room at Mirage

He sent another one a couple of hours later, saying that actually, it wasn’t a suite – it was just so nice that it seemed like it. And he wondered whether he should just fork out the extra to stay on for the weekend, because the room at the Mirage couldn’t possibly be any nicer (the fact that some Adult Expo parties were taking place at Tao probably also played a part).

Finally! Top Chef Las Vegas Gets Back to Vegas Basics

November 11, 2009 at 11:58 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

All season long, Top Chef Las Vegas has been doing its very best to isolate Vegas from the cooking competition equation. All they've done is parade in big name chefs to act as judges and let the contestants use their fancy hotel casino kitchens to complete the elimination challenges. Heck, they don't even give the M Resort any love anymore.

Oh sure, every so often they throw something "Vegas-y" into the mix like showgirls, a couple of Vegas celebs, a $10,000 poker chip or the opportunity to double down on an Elimination Challenge. But we've always felt that this season could have just as easily taken place in another city. Where's the glitz and glamour? And more importantly, where are the casinos?

Finally, last night we got what we've been waiting for all season.

The episode kicks off with every foodie's fantasy--Padma in bed wearing white robe and her hair in soft layers around her face. In the bed next to her (sadly, not in bed with her) is every foodie's other fantasy--Nigella Lawson, equally stunning as Padma and also clad in a white robe with her hair in soft layers around her face. And thus the Quickfire Challenge begins.

The Mirage is Still Celebrating Its 20th Anniversary with Deals on Rooms, Food and Drinks

November 2, 2009 at 1:53 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

If it seems like The Mirage has been celebrating its 20th Anniversary forever, you're right. The festivities kicked off at the beginning of the summer and continued last month with a 20th Anniversary Bash hosted by Slash, but the hotel actually first opened on November 22, 1989. So the Mirage has put together deals to celebrate this exact opening date next month, from November 20-22nd.

The room packages supposedly start at $89 a night with a $50 credit to the Cravings Buffet as well as 20 percent off room charges over November 20-22. Some exclusions apply, like the $15 resort fee each night (plus tax!) and on November 20 and 21st, the room rates are actually a lot higher at $171 a night. $86 rates can be found during the week during most of November and December if you can swing it.

Still, you will be able to find a few more savings elsewhere. Kokomo's, the Mirage's flagship restaurant, will return to 1989 menu prices for their offerings of prime steaks and lobster tails. And throughout the hotel certain drinks like the Purple Passion, The Melon Ball and The Long Island Iced Tea will be only $5. And don't forget, there are some discounted Rejuvenation spa packages on property as well.

While we love the new rooms at The Mirage, as well as the fact that it's home to the LOVE Cirque du Soleil show and the Secret Garden, we're still irked about the $15 resort fee. Ah well, we guess we'll just have to suck it up.

For An Attitude-Free Industry Night, Check out JET Tonight

October 5, 2009 at 7:05 PM | by globetrotting gourmet | 0 Comments

Hanging in Vegas on a Monday night and want to party like a local? Swing by JET Nightclub at The Mirage for its wildly popular Industry Night. We’ve always preferred Las Vegas better on non-weekend nights (less crowds, lower cover charges, less douchebaggery, easier to get ressies, etc.) and now we make a point of going to JET for Industry Night if we’re in town.

On Mondays, local hospitality workers get in free with the flash of a local ID (there’s never a cover for local women). Non-local guests can go online to buy a VIP Entry ticket for $40, which fast tracks them for immediate entry and includes cover charge.

The Beatles Yellow Submarine Jukebox: Only $9,000

October 2, 2009 at 8:39 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Only in Vegas can you find such indulgent toys like this $9,000 Beatles Yellow Submarine Jukebox which can store up to 2,800 CDs (you better upload the newly remastered Beatles CDs) and allows you to create your own playlists. You can even hook up your iPod to it (which sounds sort of silly but ok.)

We spied this baby at The Mirage at the LOVE Theater. So should you find yourself rolling in the dough and would rather spend your winnings on something you can take home rather than a fancy meal and bottle service at PURE, this might be just the prize for you.

However you get here, wherever you go, whoever you do and whatever you spend your winnings on, you can always share your experiences with VegasChatter. Here's how to send us all your crazy stories, helpful tips and people-watching observations.

The Mirage Celebrates 20 Years With People Who Were Famous 20 Years Ago

October 1, 2009 at 5:11 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Perhaps to distract you from the new $15 resort fee that was implemented today at the The Mirage, the casino hotel first opened by Steve Wynn is throwing its official 20th Birthday Bash tomorrow hosted by someone who peaked in fame 20 years ago--Slash. He will be joined by other late 80s stars like Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick, Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, and Keifer Sutherland, who will actually be the master of ceremonies. (Quick, someone get Kiefer a Christmas Tree!)

The festivities will kick off tomorrow night at 9pm at the Bare pool lounge and an all-star performance from Slash, Courtney Love, Led Zeppelin drummer Jason Bonham, Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorrum, the Pussycat Doll's Nicole Scherzinger and American Idol star Chris Daughtry will go off at 10pm. (Initially, Adam Levine, Tommy Lee and Rob Zombie were set to perform as well but had to cancel.) There's also supposed to be a special celebrity performance as well.

The Newest Celeb Hot Spot for a Sugar High: The Sugar Factory

Where: 3400 Las Vegas Blvd S [map], 89109
September 28, 2009 at 2:03 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Looks like M&M World might be losing its grip on the candy racket in Vegas. While in town for her final US tour dates, pop tart Britney Spears hit up the Sugar Factory candy store at The Mirage with her two sons and agent/boyfriend. And when Jon Gosselin came into town last month, he picked up some sweet treats for his brood as did former 90210-er and dad of two, Jason Priestly.

But we think Britney may have done a bit more damage than these fellas. According to TMZ, Brit spent $3,000 at the Sugar Factory buying goodies for her kids, herself and her dancers who received the store's signature $25 couture lollipops.

$3,000 on candy? We better bite into a piece of gold for that much.
